Very good points michael. I know we can all get a kind of way when we hear of something like this and when it happens to one of our own but we have to sometimes look at the broader picture. Am sure if the laws were a lot tougher we would all be looking at it differently cause am sure most of us would have suffered by this. Its not nice when we have accidents like these but its something we have to live with and remember its an accident.

I know you asked if a human life is worth $75000 and many will say that its low but does a life have a dollar value on it? If it was 5 million would it have been ok? If 5 why not 10? My point is I hate the fact that these things happen but they do and we have to look at them case by case and deal with them accordinly and in accordance with the laws.

Am not on the sides of anyone here {especially not the police lol} but we must step back and sometimes look at the situation from in the other shoe.

And, as I said earlier, the money that the Court fines you doesn't not go to the family. Its government money so its not like they are saying the people's lives carry that value. Theyare just dealing out a punishment.

The family can sue for whatever amount after.

Lets suppose traffic laws were as strict as some of you want it to be:

A man shoots at someone but misses. Do you let him off or simply fine him because he didn't actually hit anybody? No, he goes to jail. Let put driving offenses in the same league. You are caught speeding. Do you simply get a ticket? No, you go to jail because at the rate you were going you could have killed somebody.

I will not fail to highlight that you made all good points here Michael. If the penalties were as harsh as them guys wanted we would hardly have people on the forum to talk never mind me as a moderator....i would have still been in confine, lol!!!

For real. Cause look at this. Attempted Murder. Remember it wasn't just you, but you had a passenger with you, not to mention the two old women on the corner and the crowd up by the accident.
